Here we are, the climax of Group A with a match-up between the 2 teams with the most ability. Both of these teams have a reason to want to win this game although they are quite different reasons. For France a win would guarantee 1st place in the group and therefore (in theory) an easier draw in the knockout phase. For Switzerland a win would also see them finish top of the group however, if they lose and Romania manage to beat Albania then the Swiss could lose out of 2nd place! Which means that they would have to wait for other results to see if 4 points is enough to see them qualify in 3rd place where they will no doubt receive a difficult draw in the knockout phase. So lots to play for an both countries should be looking to play a strong team that wants to win the game.
In their last game, France managed to overcome a sound Albanian defence in the 90th and 96th minutes, talk about a late showing. Goals from Antoine Griezmann and man of the moment Dimitri Payet saw them through and put them in pole position to win the group. These were the only 2 shots on target in the entire game and even though Giroud missed 3 free headers and France also hit the post during the course of the game, there was a sense that Albania were unlucky and probably deserved a point however, France for the second time this tournament pulled it out of the bag.
Switzerland were disappointing in their last game against Romania, after conceding an early penalty they looked toothless in attack and it took a moment of magic from Mehmedi to get them back in it. I personally think Haris Seferovic is a terrible player and if I was a Switzerland fan I would be screaming at the TV telling Vladimir Petkovic to stick Embolo or Drmic in there and that may add more goals to this team. If Switzerland are to beat France in this game, they need to start creating more chances and sticking them away because they've been quite poor so far.
I don't see Switzerland being able to suddenly step up and make more chances and score more goals whereas France have proven that they know how to win and what is needed at the right time. They also have Dimitri Payet who is on course to win player of the tournament who could win this game for them, so I'm going for a French victory here.
We all know that France love a late goal however, I fancy them to score in both halves on this game, especially because I think Switzerland have been quite poor in this tournament especially Seferovic and Shaqiri. France have a wealth of attacking talent available to them and they should be able to bag in both halves.
The Swiss have scored 2 goals in this tournament, one of them from a set piece/keeper mistake and one world class finish. They haven't looked like putting any defence to the sword thus far and France will represent the best team by some distance that they have encountered in the tournament so far, if they can't overcome Romania then they have no hope here. France and the other hand have scored 4 goals in 2 games and have world class talent available to them. France should top this group with 9 points.
I've backed France to score in both halves and Switzerland not to score any goals so this aspect of my tips seems quite obvious. Switzerland could surprise me but I can't see it happening in all honesty, France should get an early goal and a late goal in my opinion to send them safely through the group and keep the 'favourites' tag firmly attached to them.
Didier Deschamps dropped Griezmann for the last game and brought him on as a late substitute, he then proceeded to score a glancing header that set France on their way to victory. He scores goals for fun for his club Atletico and you can never count this guy out in terms of scoring the first goal in a game he's involved in. Deschamps is likely to start Griezmann for this game due to his performance in the last game and also as they're already through, this is a great game to give people like Griezmann confidence for the rest of the tournament.
I backed this bet in the last game and I'm backing it again, he has scored in his last 2 and has an assist so this is perfectly possible. It's certainly worth chucking a couple of quid on for fun.
